古代文獻上所說的“汝窯”，系指北宋時期專為宮廷燒造天青色釉青瓷的窯場，即狹義上的汝窯，也就是人們常說的“五大名窯”—一汝、官、哥、定、鈞窯中的汝窯，有人稱之為“汝官窯”。考古調查和發掘情況表明，其遺址位于今河南省平頂山市寶豐縣大營鎮清涼寺村。廣義上的汝窯系指宋代汝州境內的所有窯場。

既然傳世汝窯瓷器與以宋徽宗趙估為代表的封建文人的審美有密切關系，而徽宗在位僅有短暫的25年，因此，汝窯為宮廷燒造瓷器的時間應該不會太長。故宮博物院著名古陶瓷研究專家陳萬里先生根據徐兢（生卒年不詳)撰《宣和奉使高麗圖經》和南宋人顧文薦撰《負暄雜錄》等有關文獻分析，認為在宋哲宗元祐元年（1086年）至徽宗崇寧五年（1106年）期間，前后約20年左右。葉喆民先生在《汝窯甘年考察紀實》中進而推斷其終于宣和末年，盛燒約40年。

Mr. Ye Jianmin concluded in the investigation record of Ruyao Gan year that he finally declared the last year of the reign of emperor Xuanhe, which lasted for about 40 years.
由于汝窯燒造時間短，故傳世器物不多，國內外現存不足百件，且大都為原清宮舊藏品，目前主要收藏在北京故宮博物院（20件）、臺北故宮博物院（21件）、英國倫教大維德基金會（12件）、上海博物館（9件）、英國倫敦大英博物館（5件）等單位，國內外其他公、私博物館和私人手中亦有零星收藏。
