In 1889, Zhang Zhidong was sent to Hubei as governor of Huguang. Shortly after that, he applied Guangdong's experience to Hubei and set up the second official money casting institution in Wuchang, Hubei Province, Hubei Yinyuan Bureau, which was also the first money casting institution built by Zhang Zhidong after he came to Hubei. Hubei silver yuan Bureau was officially put into production in December of the 20th year of Guangxu's reign (1894), and began to cast a variety of Hubei silver yuan, such as big silver yuan (heavy storage level of seven coins and two Fen), two Kai (heavy three coins and six Fen), five Kai (heavy one coins and four Fen and four Fen), ten Kai (heavy seven Fen and two Fen), twenty Kai (heavy three Fen and six Fen) and other five specifications. The silver yuan made by Hubei silver yuan bureau is sold all over the country because of its high silver content, excellent production and wide popularity. Hubei silver yuan bureau not only widely cast silver yuan, but also issued paper money. However, due to the scarcity of banknotes, it is very difficult to find and rarely known by people.
In 1894, Zhang Zhidong changed the original garrison office located in sanfoge street of Wuhan into Hubei silver dollar Bureau, and forged the third silver dollar of Guangdong Province to make Guangxu yuan treasure of Hubei Province. The first silver coin was engraved with the word "province" on the left and right sides of the Dragon diagram on the back, to show the difference from other provinces. It was only used in Hubei Province, because it was not convenient for circulation, so the amount of money was very small. Hubei silver yuan Bureau removed the word "province" on the back of the first silver coin, and in 1895, a new version of "Hubei Province made Guangxu Yuanbao" was cast. After being put into the market, the "province" silver coins were recycled, exchanged and destroyed, which was rarely handed down.

From ancient times to the present, people have the traditional custom of saving money, especially the silver dollar in the ancient money has always been a hot spot. Because silver is precious in material and high in artistic value. At the same time, the production of silver coins is relatively small. In addition to the continuous wars in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China and other factors, some more precious silver coins, such as Hubei Province Guangxu yuan treasure bank, have a small amount of silver coins and are of great collection value.
