清咸豐年間(公元1850-1861年)，通貨膨脹嚴重，各錢局大肆鑄錢。咸豐錢由重寶當十至當五十，及至元寶當百、當五百、當千。由于三寶文齊備，等值序列多，中央和地方鑄局亦多，因而其咸豐錢的版式形制繁復，加之其距今時間僅一百五十余年，故其遺存總量也多。本品面文“咸豐重寶”四字，書法風格獨特，“咸”更為尤顯，正是那“戴書”版無疑。其文字書寫莊重，筆劃有力且橫直豎立，布局協調。其背穿左右滿文寶泉，其中“泉”字滿文書寫亦見個性，特征與鐵母和鐵錢一致。而背穿上下漢文“當五十”三字，與面文書意一致，頗見力道，端莊俊朗。毫無疑問，就其書相而言，本品出滿文“寶”字上下圈之間筆劃稍粗，有所粘連外，其余皆與鐵母高度相似，若以鐵范銅斷之，則其出于鐵母，難以否定，故其乃官爐出品，書相無異無邪，其門可開矣。
