光緒三十二年(1906年)，清政府在天津成立戶部造幣總廠，鑄造“光緒元寶”銀元和“大清銀幣”。光緒三十一年(1905年)，云南獲得批準設立分廠，廠址于舊寶云局地址上，現今昆明市錢局街，機器設備由德國進口，技術工人從四川調入，祖模系向天津廠請領，于光緒三十三年(1907年)八月鑄幣完工，開始鑄造銀幣。初鑄銀幣現俗稱“老云南”。面值有七錢二分(一元)、三錢六分(五角)、一錢四分四厘(二角)。三個品種后鑄背龍圖無英文俗稱“新云南”。面值有七錢二分(一元)、三錢六分(五角)、一錢四分四厘(二角)、七分二厘(一角)四個品種。
光緒元寶是清朝光緒年間流通的貨幣之一，是大清光緒年流通大面值貨幣之首，是我國首批引進海外技術的印發流通貨幣。對于現今也蘊藏了一定歷史意義。不同版別的光緒元寶都有獨特的韻味，值得藏家深品。特別是“云南省”鑄造的光緒元寶備受青睞，成為很多買家追逐的焦點。

翻譯 ：In 1906, the Qing government set up a minting factory in Tianjin to make "Guangxu Yuanbao" silver coins and "Qing silver coins". In 1905, Yunnan was approved to set up a branch factory. The factory site was located at the address of the old Baoyun Bureau. Now, qianju street, Kunming City, machinery and equipment were imported from Germany, technical workers were transferred in from Sichuan, and zumo system applied to Tianjin factory. In August 1907, Guangxu minted coins and began to cast silver coins. The first silver coins are now commonly known as "old Yunnan". The face value is seven and two cents (one yuan), three and six cents (fifty cents) and one and four and four cents (twenty cents). There is no English common name "new Yunnan" for the three varieties of post cast back dragon map. There are four kinds of denominations: seven two cents (one yuan), three six cents (fifty cents), one four four cents (twenty cents) and seven two cents (one jiao).
