戶部造幣廠是目前我國歷史最悠久的造幣廠，主要生產流通銅幣、金銀幣等。據文獻記載，光緒二十二年，根據盛京將軍依克唐阿的奏請，批準設立并籌建戶部機器局以鑄造機制銀幣，從德國進口鍋爐和以蒸汽機為動力的鑄幣機器，于光緒二十三年(1897年)戶部機器局正式建成。“戶部制造銀元總局”的前身，是“戶部機器局”。
