光緒二十九年（公元1903年）七月，清政府擬訂了《整頓圜法章程》十條，其中提出銀幣專由造幣總廠制造，保留南洋（江南）、北洋、廣東、湖北四局為分廠。大清銀幣壹圓，清宣統三年總廠鑄。當時清政府欲統一幣制，聘請海外高級技師精心設計制造了這套宣統三年大清銀幣，計有六、七種版式，曲須龍是其中之一。新幣剛試鑄成功，正逢武昌起義，于是大部分新版銀幣胎死腹中，只留有少量樣幣。此枚錢幣屬于試樣性質，因圖案精致、存世稀少而受人重視。

宣統三年大清銀幣，是清末幣制改革的產物，版別多式，設計新穎，制作精良，歷為錢幣愛好者的珍藏品。宣統三年大清銀幣有不同版式，其中長須龍、短須龍、大尾龍比較稀少。大清銀幣大尾龍，直齒邊。該幣正面上下緣為滿、漢文“宣統三年”字樣，珠圈內漢字“大清銀幣”四字，兩邊分列長枝菊花紋飾。背面中間為漢字“壹圓”二字，下緣是英文“壹圓”，蟠龍沿邊緣自左向右騰云而起，龍頭居上，大尾十二須向上，龍珠在“圓”字下方，龍眼凹突，鼻梁俏上。
