道光是清宣宗—愛新覺羅·旻寧的年號（1821—1850年），是清王朝入關后的第六個皇帝。其在位30年，終年69歲。其在位勤政節儉，但是政績平平，拿得出手的就是平定了張格爾叛亂。也是他禁煙運動失敗，鴉片戰爭失敗，并且簽訂了喪權辱國的《南京條約》，使中國開始步入半封建半殖民地社會。而道光通寶就是在這樣的歷史背景下鑄造而成的。
近些年來，清朝古錢幣在錢幣收藏市場中的關注度越來越高，收藏價格也屢創新高。其中比較突出的道光通寶其價格更是漲幅巨大，而且其價格依然存在很大的升值空間，具有很高的增值潛力，是清朝錢幣難得的收藏珍品。
文中展示此組道光通寶一共四枚。其為方孔圓錢，邊廓略寬，材質為精煉銅。整幣設計簡約大氣，古樸典雅，鑄造工藝精湛。錢幣正面是楷書書寫的“道光通寶”四字，自上而下而右而左直讀。背面為滿文的鑄造錢局標記。這四枚道光通寶的色澤自然，紋飾深淺適度，錢文輪廓的清晰程度較好，品相上好，可算是同類藏品中的精品，收藏價值極高。
