光緒八年（1882年），吉林向朝廷奏稱""吉林省制錢缺乏，市面益顯蕭條，再三商量，只有依照制錢式樣，鑄造銀錢，解決現(xiàn)錢的短缺""。奏準(zhǔn)后于光緒十年（1884年）即令吉林機器局鑄造了廠平壹兩、廠平七錢、廠平半兩、廠平三錢、廠平一錢5種面值的銀圓。這是我國用機器自行設(shè)計制作的最早的一批銀圓，開創(chuàng)了我國機制銀圓的先河，在中國貨幣制造史上占有十分重要的地位。光緒二十四年（1898年），吉林機器局更名為吉林銀元局，并開鑄無紀(jì)年光緒元寶。此枚銀幣正面中央珠圈內(nèi)鐫漢文“光緒元寶”四個字，四字中央鐫太極圖。珠圈外上端鐫“吉林省造”四個漢字，下端鐫幣值“庫平一兩”四個字，“辛丑”兩個字分鐫左右兩側(cè)。銀幣背面中央鐫蟠龍圖，此枚銀幣包漿入骨，品相極佳，具有重要的收藏價值。
