光緒元寶是大清光緒年流通大面值貨幣之首，是我國首批引進海外技術的機制流通貨幣，對于現今也蘊藏了一定歷史意義。當時，光緒元寶共有十九個省局鑄造，除中央戶部，地方省所鑄錢幣，皆在其正面上緣鐫寫省名。
湖北省造光緒元寶庫平七錢二分，直徑4cm，尺寸規范，大小合適，錢幣雖經歷了無窮歲月的洗禮和歷史的沉淀，但如今依然保存較為完好;它在燈光下散發出一種淡淡的銀光，仿佛帶著一股王者的貴氣，高貴而優雅。錢幣正面珠圈內鐫滿漢文“光緒元寶”字樣，珠圈外上環鑄“湖北省造”四字，底部鑄貨幣價值：“庫平七錢二分”，左右兩側飾有小花。錢幣背面上下環英文，左右各飾小花，中心為蟠龍圖，龍爪張揚，龍鱗清晰，龍紋深峻，龍眼凸起，威武霸氣，神武有力，十分精美。觀之，猶如一幅神龍翱翔天際的油畫，極其瑰麗，美的動人心魄，扣人心弦。
