嘉慶通寶鑄于清仁宗嘉慶年間(1796-1820年)。錢面文字"嘉慶通寶"以楷書書寫，從上而下而右而左直讀。錢背滿文左"寶"，右為滿文鑄造錢局名，如泉、源、蘇、河、廣等。
該錢面文嘉慶通寶寶源局，背滿文紀局，黃銅或紅銅材質傳世銹相。根據譜載，嘉慶朝除戶部寶泉局和工部寶源局外，尚有17個地方錢局鑄錢所鑄以小平錢為主，僅有少數幾個局鑄有折二型進呈樣錢,嘉慶通寶珍品除雕母外，較珍稀的則是其折二錢。
