光緒元寶是清朝光緒年間流通的貨幣之一。由湖北兩廣總督張之洞率先引進英國鑄幣機器鑄造銀元和銅元，之后各省紛紛仿效。共有十九個省局鑄造，除中央戶部，地方省所鑄銅元，皆在其正面上緣鐫寫省名。為中國第一枚使用的機制鑄幣。清代以來經歷了多場戰爭，珍惜的光緒元寶損失嚴重，在眾多“光緒元寶”的版別中，“光緒元寶湖北造當十銅幣”的收藏價值也名列前茅。而此幣為“湖北省造光緒元寶當十（中心金錢）試鑄幣”，并非常見流通幣。在“湖北省造光緒元寶當十銅幣”中，中心帶有“金錢鑄花”的“湖北省造光緒元寶當十銅幣”，存世量稀少。而“湖北省造光緒元寶當十銅幣”的試鑄幣更為稀有。本幣前兩者都具備，歷屆拍賣記錄未曾出現過同種錢幣，可知此幣有多么珍貴，十分珍惜，實為罕見。
