光緒元寶，清代貨幣、紙鈔、銅幣并行，至嘉慶年間發行新式銀元，而光緒年間鑄行金、銀幣更多。洋務運動也影響到鑄幣業，兩廣總督張之洞曾于光緒十三年（1887年）委托使英大臣在英國訂購全套造幣機器，并在廣東錢局首鑄機制銀元和銅元。

此枚光緒元寶廣東省造銀幣，幣正面珠圈內鐫漢文和滿文“光緒元寶”字樣，上鑄“廣東省造”四字，下鐫“庫平七分二”五字，兩旁鐫花飾。背面蟠龍居中，外圈為英文，并鐫有“7”和“2”阿拉伯數字，兩旁鐫小花飾。
