咸豐重寶是清朝政府為籌款鎮(zhèn)壓太平軍，緩解財(cái)政危機(jī)，于咸豐三年開鑄的大錢。鑄造有“咸豐重寶”、“咸豐元寶”等錢幣。此種銅錢幣十分精美，字跡清晰深俊，銅材優(yōu)良，呈淺紅黃色，比同版流通的錢稍大些、厚重些。
當(dāng)五十及以下計(jì)值稱為“咸豐重寶”，高于當(dāng)五十計(jì)值稱為“咸豐元寶”，以區(qū)別于小平錢“咸豐通寶”。
