辛亥革命以后，袁世凱就任“臨時(shí)大總統(tǒng)”之職，后又成為正式大總統(tǒng)。民國三年（1914年）二月國民政府財(cái)政部公布《中華民國國幣條例》，整頓統(tǒng)一幣制，規(guī)定民國三年袁頭像銀幣一元為本位幣。
After the 1911 Revolution, Yuan Shikai took the post of "temporary president" and then became a formal president. In February of the third year of the Republic of China (1914), the Ministry of finance of the national government promulgated the regulations of the Republic of China on currency, which rectified and unified the currency system, and stipulated that Yuan's silver coin as the base currency in the third year of the Republic of China.

此幣正面為袁世凱側(cè)面像，上列“中華民國三年”。 幣中袁世凱目光有神，炯炯注視前上方。整體簡潔大方，包漿自然。背面圖案為兩株稻穗組成的嘉禾紋，中央豎寫“壹元”二字。整枚錢幣鍛造精細(xì)，雕刻精美。
The obverse of this coin is the profile of Yuan Shikai, listed above as "three years of the Republic of China".
