清順治四年河南開封設(shè)錢局，是為寶河局。順治六年因懷慶有銅、煤而移至懷慶府。設(shè)爐十八座，順治十四年停，所鑄錢背為“河”字。十七年又開，康熙元年又開鑄康熙錢，旋停。康熙六年復(fù)開，九年停，二十四年重開。至雍正七年開鑄雍正通寶錢，背滿文“寶河”，九年停。乾隆、嘉慶、道光三朝寶河局未開鑄。咸豐四年七月開鑄當(dāng)千、五百、百、五十、當(dāng)十各值錢。

此枚錢幣其面文“咸豐元寶”四字，直讀，背滿文“寶和”與漢文“當(dāng)五百”幾字，除滿文外，漢字皆楷書書體。品其書相，可感其楷書書寫頗見功力，起收有頓，轉(zhuǎn)折見鋒，筆劃?rùn)M直豎立，文字大小與布局規(guī)矩協(xié)調(diào)，整體（面背漢文）書意瀟灑大方，凸顯端莊俊朗，背滿文書寫亦是規(guī)矩有力。其中，可見其“咸”字和“寳”字書相更具個(gè)性特征，“咸”字長(zhǎng)勾，“寳”字“大足貝”，與譜載雕母相似度很高，寶河局大錢書相之個(gè)性風(fēng)格凸顯。故以其書相而言，乃寶和官爐所出，無異無邪，其門得開矣。
