1895年，英國政府鑄造了新的貿易銀元，俗稱“站人”“站洋”。“站人”銀元先后在英國倫敦、印度孟買和加爾各答等兩國三地制造，集英文、中文、馬來文等三國文字于一體，這在世界鑄幣史上是非常罕見的。特別是將中國古老的篆字記于外幣之上，令人啼笑皆非。它不僅反映了一段扭曲的歷史，而且反映了英國及其英殖民地國家，一個特殊時期的政治、經濟、文化、書法的發展變化。所以，“站人”遠遠超過一個國家，一種銀幣的文物價值。“站人”銀元圖案精美，內涵深邃。正面一名武士，站立岸頭，傲視世界。左手持米字盾牌，右手執三叉戟，意為能攻能守，戰無不勝。珠圈下左右兩側分列英文ONE-DOLLAR（壹圓），下方記載年號。背面中央有中文篆體“壽”字，上下為中文行體“壹圓”，左右為馬來文“壹圓”。“坐洋”的形象雖然與其后英國鑄造的“站洋”中持戟武士傲然挺立船頭的形象大相徑庭，但卻絲毫無法掩蓋殖民主義者大規模進行經濟侵略的野心。
