袁世凱像背嘉禾壹一圓銀幣俗稱“袁大頭”，辛亥革命以后，袁世凱就任“臨時大總統”之職發行的錢幣，袁世凱為了提高自己的統治地位，把自己的頭像鑄于幣面，“袁大頭”由此而來。1914年2月7日，袁世凱以大總統令形式公布了《國幣條例》及《國幣條例施行細則》，規定國幣種類有銀幣4種（壹圓、中圓、貳角、壹角）、鎳幣一種（五分）、銅幣五種（二分、一分、五厘、二厘、一厘）。因袁大頭壹圓銀幣幣型劃一，成色、重量有嚴格規定，很快受到了社會認同和接受，在國內金融市場上逐步取代了清朝的龍洋，成為流通領域的主幣。

這枚“袁大頭”，屬中華民國三年袁世凱像嘉禾壹圓銀幣L.GIORGI簽字版，銀幣正面鐫大總統袁世凱五分臉側面像，肖像上端環鐫發行年號“中華民國三年”，右側邊緣鐫有銀幣設計者意大利雕版師魯爾治·喬治的拉丁文簽名L.GIORGI。背面中央鐫幣值“壹圓”二字，托以嘉禾二本，左右交互，下系結帶。即使已是“百年高齡”，仍舊保存完好。其色澤光鮮自然，紋飾深淺適度，邊緣線條粗細均勻，間距也疏密一致，乃“袁大頭”銀元之精品。
