中華民國所鑄袁世凱像背嘉禾壹圓銀幣，俗稱“袁大頭”，在正式開鑄銀幣前，同樣有用銅沖壓試機這一過程，其試機結果稱為試機樣幣。“初始試鑄幣”—是指任何一款機制幣，一切鑄幣工作已臻妥善，奉批開始鑄幣“后”所產出。“初始試鑄幣”產出后，經過檢視，發現缺點，微調、改正、修圖，再重新鑄造，達可呈上御覽核批的階段，該批幣就稱為“試鑄樣幣”。之后，還有報審“呈報樣幣”階段，就是逐一向上報審批通過，之后批量生產流通的銀幣。而銅試機樣幣，非正鑄品，多在沖壓出來后銷毀之，但是小有一些遺存下來，然其卻是收藏的珍貴品種。中華民國三年（1914年）試鑄過袁世凱全側像銅樣幣，為非常珍貴的試鑄品。
