清光緒年間，發(fā)行了各種各樣的銀幣，統(tǒng)稱為“光緒元寶”。能夠流傳到今天的，已經(jīng)是價(jià)值非常高了。為什么光緒元寶能夠在古錢幣中達(dá)到這么高的價(jià)值？這還要從光緒元寶產(chǎn)生的歷史背景說起。光緒年間，同時(shí)也是西洋文化大舉入侵中國的時(shí)節(jié)。西方殖民者用堅(jiān)船利炮打開了中國的大門，中國開始出現(xiàn)錢幣。光緒元寶的制造機(jī)器就是出自于英國人的設(shè)計(jì)之手，因此，光緒元寶的出現(xiàn)實(shí)際上反映的是當(dāng)時(shí)中國歷史已經(jīng)走到了半封建半殖民地的關(guān)鍵節(jié)點(diǎn)。
當(dāng)時(shí)清朝政府鑄造此幣的目的是奉獻(xiàn)清廷以祝慈禧太后萬壽，亦可稱是大清官方唯一機(jī)鑄的紀(jì)念幣。所以鑄額不大，大多奉獻(xiàn)給清廷或贈(zèng)于當(dāng)時(shí)的達(dá)官顯貴，見于民間流通的很少，是中國最早的著名珍稀的銀幣，
