歷史上張獻忠據(jù)川時，自稱“大西王”，在成都建 大西國，改元大順，鑄有“西王賞功”大錢，分金、銀、銅三品，以獎勵有軍功者。西王賞功存世罕見，早年所知金、銀皆為孤品，后又有新的發(fā)現(xiàn)，珍罕程度已不如從前，2011年嘉德春拍出品金質、銀質西王賞功各一，金質成交價格230萬元。市場價值成倍翻漲，之后市場出現(xiàn)很多均為臆造品，真品難得一見。
錢面文字“西王賞功”以楷書書寫，從上而下而右而左直讀。字體渾樸，筆畫挺拔，邊廓精整，品相佳美。錢背光而無文。該幣兩面的包漿沉著，呈古銅色與繡綠，包漿渾厚，異常堅硬，沒有脫落，具有極高的珍藏價值。
