Kaiyuan Tongbao was the first currency in Tang Dynasty. Because of its reasonable quality, proper currency control and exquisite coin workmanship, it is very popular among the people. Kaiyuan Tongbao has become a part of the money of the Five Great Emperors. It has the function of eliminating evil spirits and prospering wealth. Copper Kaiyuan Tongbao is a common kind of Kaiyuan Tongbao. Because of its long history and more coins unearthed, most of its surface is rusty and worn seriously. In the early Tang Dynasty, the outer Guo became thinner and wider after the middle Tang Dynasty. Kaiyuan Tongbao generally has a finer inner Guo and a round cast square. Qian Wen is a four-character direct reading of Li Shu "Kaiyuan Tongbao". Tongzi "Yongtou" has its own characteristics, which integrates the characteristics of seal books. There are many editions of Kaiyuan Tongbao, which can be divided into three periods: early, middle and late. In the early period, Kaiyuan had fine outline and exquisite writing; in the middle period, the back of money was mostly decorated with stars, months and other decorations; in the later period, because of poor copper smelting and rough coinage, it was represented by "Huichang Kaiyuan". In the four characters of Kaiyuan Tongbao, the shape of the Yuan character varies slightly in different periods, and the second stroke of the Yuan character can be distinguished by left-handed, right-handed and double-handed, among which the latter two are seldom seen.
