五銖錢是中國古銅幣名。錢上有“五銖”二篆字，故名，東漢王朝剛剛建立，經濟基礎薄弱，社會動蕩。半兩錢、西漢五銖錢、王莽的貨泉和大泉五十等，雜混在民間流通。直到建武十六年（公元40年）才重鑄五銖錢。自此以后，東漢各帝均鑄五銖錢，古錢學家將東漢前期鑄行的五銖錢稱為“延帝五銖”。在靈帝中平三年（公元186年）改鑄“四出文”五銖錢。建武以后各朝五銖錢比西漢各朝五銖錢輕薄，錢徑多在2.5厘米，重3.4-3.4克，厚約0.1厘米，一般為3克，外郭較窄。“五銖”二字寬肥圓柔，筆劃較粗且淺，面文“五”字中間交筆彎曲，上下兩橫不出來，“銖”字“金”字頭呈三角形，比西漢五銖金字旁大，“金”字四點較長；“朱”字頭圓折，中間直筆，兩端較細；制作精致，文字書體規范。中國銅元見證了中國從封建社會演化為半封建半殖民地社會的歷史過程，是我國近代貨幣史和錢幣學的重要組成部分，獨具歷史意義。此枚藏品設計精美，做工精細，布局合理，層次鮮明，工藝純熟精湛，錢幣雖小，卻也能反應當時社會文化的特征具有很大的市場價值和經濟價值。
