此組藏品為“京局造光緒元寶（庚子年）”，清代光緒二十六年歲次庚子（1900年）清政府北京銀圓局成立開始鑄造銀幣，當時委由英國皇家鑄幣廠雕制鑄幣鋼模，幣面圖樣正中光緒元寶滿、漢文四字，左右年份“庚子”上端為鑄造機關“京局制造”四字，下端計重“庫平七錢二分”，背面圖樣中為一大清龍圖，上、下端分別為英文“PEKING”和重量。整體結構端莊精美，鑄造工藝精湛，字跡清晰，猶如刀切斧削，非常精練。真的庚子京局制造光緒元寶錢文線條間透露一種剛毅之勁，神韻非常，讓人嘆為觀止。不僅藝術價值高，歷史研究價值也很高，因而十分珍貴。

京局庚子系列銀元在中國近代機制幣收藏界中聲名顯赫，區別于其他中央發行或地方省造龍洋的龍圖較為明顯的國外風格，庚子京局龍洋更似明清皇帝朝服上張牙舞爪的龍圖，別有一番韻味。而因其鑄造的命運多桀，更使得庚子京局系列銀幣存世無多，從而更受各類錢幣收藏家的追捧。
然而當鋼模送抵北京銀圓局不久，適遭逢拳匪之變，又被八國聯軍劫掠，鑄幣廠房被毀，北京銀圓局仍胎死腹中，僅留存少量銀幣存世。共分五種面值，分別為七錢二分、三錢六分、一錢四分四厘、七分二厘和三分六厘。過數年，清政府才改立造幣總廠于天津。京局制造的銀幣背面龍圖為一張牙舞爪的正式大清龍圖，和我國其他各省的龍圖銀圓大相徑庭，其云龍圖樣常見于清正式龍袍，錦緞文書，陶瓷器，形象威武，有大國風范，歷來為錢幣收藏界所珍視、喜愛，加上只試鑄數枚，又遭匪亂，傳世甚少，為我國銀幣愛好者珍若供璧、名貴非凡。 庚子京局制造光緒元寶是第一套清中央政府正式鑄造的銀幣，意義不凡，每種面值傳世僅數枚，尤以壹圓銀幣最為少見，也最珍罕，國內只上海博物館藏有一套。
