Ge Kiln is one of the five famous kilns in Song Dynasty. It is as famous as Ru, Guan, Ding and Jun Kilns. It is famous for the grain on its surface. It is an official kiln that burns Royal wares for the court. Literature records about Geyao can be seen first in the Ming Dynasty "Xuande Dingyi Pedigree" when mentioning famous porcelain: "Neifu Tibet: Chai, Ru, Guan, Ge, Jun, Ding."
According to Gegu Yao Lun, "Ge Yao Wen takes ice cracking, eel blood is the top, plum blossom ink is the second. Fine grain, under the grain. "Chuzhou Prefecture annals" also said: "his brother Zhang Sheng, the owner of the kiln, are shallow white fragments, number 100 rubbish, also crowned at that time. Geyao patterns are mostly black, commonly known as "gold wire". The patterns are divided into eel blood, black blue, light yellow croaker roe patterns according to color, and net pattern, plum pattern, fine fragments and so on according to shape. The general characteristics of the opening of Geyao ceramics are as follows: flat and compact, cracking into upper tight and lower wide shape, sometimes flashing blue in black patterns.
Ge kiln in Song Dynasty is very popular in later generations. There are many imitators in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and each has its own style. It is called imitation Ge kiln or Ge glaze, but its production technology can not be comparable with Song Dynasty Ge kiln. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty especially appreciated the Song Dynasty's brother kiln. He was delighted to write poems praising it: "Iron feet, round waist, ice cracks, Xuan Cheng, and so on."
The imperial kiln factory in Yongzheng and Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty produced imitation brother kiln ware. Its opening piece and glaze color are very delicate and perfect. It is not difficult to imagine how much effort the porcelain workers put into it, so they can achieve such a high artistic level. This product is the best antique wares at that time, which shows the literary sentiment of Hongli's love for Geyao kiln. Its bottle style is solemn, simple and elegant, its glaze juice is thick and simple, and its opening piece is natural. It perfectly reproduces the elegant antique feelings and superb antique skills of Qianlong flourishing age.
