清文宗的年號,咸豐年間正值太平天國革命運動的高潮時期。此時民怨沸騰，清政府為了茍延殘喘，在錢幣鑄行上大做文章，將財政危機轉嫁到老百姓身上。相繼推出“咸豐通寶”、“咸豐重寶”、“咸豐元寶”等錢幣。大平軍連捷，各地反清起義風起云涌下，清軍疲于奔命，清廷驚慌失措。這時，清朝的軍費開支大增，而稅額收入大減，再加上鴉片戰爭的影響，導致財政拮據，為了籌款繼續鎮壓太平軍，緩解財政危機，于咸豐三年（公元1853年）清廷被迫鼓鑄大錢。《大錢圖錄》說：“咸豐三年（公元1853年），軍務日滋，清餉不能繼，壽陽相國權戶部議，請鑄當十大錢，兼增鐵冶以供度支。旋推及當十，樣幣，通過后再批量生產，因此咸豐重寶樣幣具有一定的歷史價值和經濟價值。此枚乃評級幣“咸豐重寶”錢幣鑄相規整，方正圓矩，地章平整，包漿濃厚，銹相開門，正面鑄有楷書“咸豐重寶”四字，從上而下而右而左直讀;錢背上下寫有漢文“當十”二字標明幣值，左右用滿文寫有錢局的名稱。 棱邊未經任何人工雕琢，自然的鑄相”特征明顯，使人一看便知官爐出品，是難得一見之收藏佳品!
