中華民國開國紀念幣是1911年12月29 日經辛亥革命后，光復的17省代表在南京推選孫中山為中華民國臨時大總統。民國成立時鼓鑄的紀念幣，為紀念國父孫中山豐功偉績，中央所鑄貨幣均用國父像，南京、天津諸造幣廠于民國16年、17年重新大量鑄造中華民國孫像開國紀念幣。

由于幣制尚未建立，除四川改鑄大漢銀幣，福建改鑄中華元寶外，主要的造幣廠，大都仍沿用前清鋼模鑄造銀幣，以供流通需要。由于幣制混亂，臨時政府財政部長陳錦濤，于民國元年3月11日呈文大總統孫中山，鼓鑄10萬元紀念銀幣以為整頓。

錢幣正面圈內圖案鐫兩面交叉的國旗，左為鐵血十八星旗，右為五色旗，中間系結帶，旗幟飄揚，雙旗上方有五角星裝飾。圈外上環楷體“中華民國”字樣，下環“開國紀念幣”五字，左右兩側長枝花飾之。

錢幣背面圈內為稻穗組成的嘉禾紋圖案，中央豎寫“十文”2字，紋飾逼真，凹凸有致，栩栩如生，圈外英文環繞。
