此幣由意大利籍雕刻師喬（L.Giorgi）設計制模，喬治設計前并未見過袁世凱本人，是以袁氏半身向左的照片為樣本進行雕刻，稱為“七分臉”，完成后赴京晉見，發現與袁世凱本人差異甚大而未受青睞。分別有喬治“簽字版”及“無簽字版”，后來采用大家熟知的袁大頭也有英文簽字版，此幣人物向側面傾斜七分稱“七分臉”，幣面上的英文字樣L.GIORGI為華外籍鑄幣專家意大利雕刻師所刻，比無簽字版少，鑄額亦極少，此幣自然氧化顏色均勻，為難得之佳品。
