民國(guó)二十四年(1935年)國(guó)民政府廢止銀本位制，頒布法幣令逐步禁止白銀流通并將白銀收歸國(guó)有。于民國(guó)二十四年開始發(fā)行新的貨幣用新版鎳幣替代銀元、銀豪(當(dāng)時(shí)鎳是比較貴重的金屬)。孫像古布鎳幣幣制統(tǒng)一、種類齊全，在民國(guó)機(jī)制流通幣中算最精美的一種了。
鎳當(dāng)時(shí)是比較貴重的一種金屬，發(fā)行孫像古布鎳幣就是用于替換當(dāng)時(shí)的銀元、銀豪，貨幣比值同銀幣是一樣的，同等兌換一定數(shù)量的銅幣或其它貨幣，當(dāng)時(shí)民國(guó)的百姓也是把它當(dāng)銀幣使用。孫像古布鎳幣在民國(guó)錢幣中也是成套體系最完整的。
中華民國(guó)二十三年孫小頭半圓幣正反面邊緣飾回形紋，正面中心為有孫中山先生的五分側(cè)面像，上環(huán)“中華民國(guó)二十三年”字樣；背面中央為布幣圖案，左右有幣值“半圓”。藏品歷史痕跡明顯，放在手心，一股滄桑之感撲面而來(lái)。其色澤自然，包漿溫潤(rùn)，形制規(guī)整，紋飾、字體精細(xì)，具有不錯(cuò)的收藏價(jià)值。
