“雨過天晴云破處，千峰碧波翠色來”天青釉，又名雨過天青，是一種幽淡雋永的高溫色釉，古代陶書描寫其青如天，明如鏡。關于天青釉，相傳為五代后周世宗柴榮所創，“當日清器式，世宗批其狀曰：雨過天晴云破處，者般顏色作將來”。從創燒開始，天青釉在中國陶瓷史上，一直占據著非常重要的地位，甚至被譽為代表著中國陶瓷的最高審美價值。北宋汝窯更把天青釉推上了歷史的高峰，成為蕓蕓眾瓷中的絕色。純凈瑩澈、簡潔質樸、飄逸素雅，單色釉的美學價值從宋代到現在，都代表著瓷器的最高審美標準，也是漢文化美學的巔峰表現，非常符合中國文人的審美情懷。筆洗是一種文房用具，是用來盛水洗筆的器皿，以形制乖巧、種類繁多、雅致精美而廣受青睞，傳世的筆洗中，有很多是藝術珍品，但流傳至今的不多。此件天青釉筆洗洗敞口，洗心坦平，圈足外撇，裹足支燒，足底有三個支釘痕。由于汝窯用瑪瑙作釉的原料，對產生特殊的色澤有一定作用，從而形成了釉面色澤瑩潤，釉如凝脂的特點。基本色調是一種淡淡的天青色，俗稱""鴨蛋殼青色""，釉層不厚，隨造型的轉折變化，呈現濃淡深淺的層次變化。釉面開裂紋片，多為錯落有致的極細紋片，透明無色似冰裂，俗稱為""蟹爪紋""。汝窯瓷器以釉色取勝，少見花紋裝飾。

明宣宗朱瞻基（1398年－1435年），明朝第五位皇帝。明代宣德年間景德鎮御窯廠燒造的青花瓷器，在中國陶瓷發展史上具有很重要的地位。它以其古樸，典雅的造型，晶瑩艷麗的釉色，多姿多彩的紋飾而聞名于世，與明代其他各朝的青花瓷器相比，其燒制技術達到了最高峰，成為我國瓷器名品之一，其成就被稱頌為“開一代未有之奇”。《景德鎮陶錄》評價宣德瓷器：“諸料悉精，青花最貴。據明代徐溥等人奉敕編撰的《大明會典·卷一百九十四·工部十四》載:“宣德八年(1433),尚膳監題準燒造龍鳳瓷器,差本部官一員,送出該監式樣,往饒州燒造各樣瓷器四十四萬三千五百件”,其中大部分也是青花瓷。宣德皇帝朱瞻基工詩擅畫,藝術造詣很高,又好射獵、斗促織。北京故宮博物院藏有宣德皇帝親筆所繪《武侯高臥圖》、《三陽開泰圖》、《瓜鼠圖》、《射獵圖》(后定名為《明宣宗射獵圖》)、《行樂圖》(后定名為《明宣宗行樂圖》等。由于他本人對藝術品的偏好和重視,從宮廷到民間,制作藝術品的技藝均很精湛。除瓷器外,銅器、琺瑯器、雕漆、織繡品、繪畫等,都達到一流水準。
