我國古人對龜類是崇拜有加的，而且龜文化源遠流長。在古代，龜堪稱位尊身高，被人們看做是吉祥如意、剛顏不屈、先知先行的動物，龜與龍、鳳、麟合稱四靈，在所謂的四靈之中，龍、鳳、麟都非現實存在的神話動物，而龜卻是其中唯一現實存在的爬行動物。
Ancient Chinese worshipped turtles, and the culture of turtles has a long history. In ancient times, turtles were regarded as the animals of good luck, unyielding face and prophet. Tortoise and dragon, Phoenix and Lin were the four spirits. 長久以來，人們認為龜是吉祥動物，與鶴同為長壽的象征。稱它能知天命辟邪惡，將其視為能夠給人們帶來吉祥如意，富貴安康的大宗寶物。
For a long time, turtles have been regarded as auspicious animals and as symbols of longevity along with cranes. It is said that it knows the destiny of heaven against evil and regards it as a great treasure that can bring people good luck, wealth and health.
而八仙的故事則是相傳是八仙為祝賀王母娘娘壽辰，八仙攜仙桃，乘千年老龜為王毌祝壽，宊顯主人地位尊崇，在歸途中跨過東洋大海，回程時鐵拐李建議不搭船而各自想辦法各用自己的法寶護身為開，競相過海，以顯神通，這就是“八仙過海，各顯神通”的由來了。
The story of the Eight Immortals is legendary that the Eight Immortals celebrate the birthday of the Queen Mother. The Eight Immortals take the Peach with them and take the Millennium Turtle to celebrate the birthday of the Queen. They show their respect for their masters. They cross the East Sea on their way home. On their return journey, Tieguai Li suggests that they should not take a boat, but use their own magic treasures to protect themselves and compete to cross the sea in order to show their divinity. This is the origin of "Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, Each Showing His Magic Power".
此件八仙祝壽龜，整體色澤溫潤，造型規整，品相極好，其擺飾之大氣，龜身伏四只小龜，頭頂和后尾龜蓋各一只前后呼應，兩只前腳龜蓋上各伏小龜一只左右相輔，意寓四方招財進寶，實為大吉。龜蓋左右兩側刻“長”“壽”二字，中間駝有一只大壽桃，周邊為八仙立體雕像，觀八仙，高談闊論，神采飛揚，仙意悠悠，底款為“大清乾隆年制”。八仙祝壽是傳統的裝飾題材，也是家喻戶曉的神話故事之一。八仙原本是不同時期的人物，因元代曲本中的八仙祝壽一詞而將各時期的人物給撮合在了一起，此八仙祝壽龜擺件，從瑞獸到人物雕刻，均惟妙惟肖，栩栩如生，材質頗具份量，更易獲得相關藏家的青睞。
This eight immortals birthday tortoise has warm color, regular shape and excellent appearance. Its decorative atmosphere is that the body of the tortoise is prone to four small tortoises, the top of the head and the back of the turtle cover echo back and forth, and the two front-foot turtles are covered with one small tortoise, which complements each other, implying that all sides attract wealth and treasure. Inscribed on both sides of the turtle cover are the words "long" and "longevity". In the middle of the camel is a peach with a longevity. It is surrounded by a three-dimensional statue of eight immortals. Baxian birthday celebration is a traditional decorative theme and one of the well-known fairy tales. Eight immortals were originally figures of different periods. Because of the word "eight immortals wish their birthday" in the Yuan Dynasty's Quben, the characters of each period were matched together. The eight immortals wish their birthday turtles'ornaments, from the Ruiwu to the character sculpture, are vivid, lifelike, with considerable material, and are more likely to be favored by the relevant collectors.
