雞血石產于浙江臨安市昌化鎮(zhèn)、內蒙古赤峰市巴林右旗、陜西旬陽縣等地,作為中國四大國石之一,與壽山石、青田石、巴林石齊名。而其中以昌化雞血石和巴林雞血石最為著名。昌化雞血石,又名鳳血石,產于浙江省杭州臨安市昌化鎮(zhèn)西北面的玉巖山。該石是含辰砂礦物的致密塊狀葉蠟石,具有鮮活艷麗如同雞血的色彩和亮麗剔透似美玉般的光澤,因其石色彩艷紅如雞血而得名。可用于制作印章、雕刻工藝品和原石欣賞。亦是我國最著名的四大系印章石之一。清代歷代皇帝與后妃多選昌化雞血石作為玉璽。乾隆49年,乾隆帝南巡到天目時,禪源寺主持獻給一方雞血石,乾隆帶去京刻了“乾隆之寶”玉璽一方。如今這方玉璽仍藏在故宮博物館的珍寶館“列代帝王印章六十八顆”之中,并注明有“用昌化雞血石雕刻”字樣。昌化雞血石中的基質被稱為“地”,顏色多為白、黃、灰等色;而辰砂形成的紅色則被稱為“血”,有各種不同色調的“血”色。以“地”的不同顏色以及質地等劃分出很多品種,其中最著名也最珍貴的品種有: 大紅袍:含“血”量大于50%~70%。極為難得,以凍地鮮紅血最佳,很稀少。紅帽子:上部為全紅,下部為凍石,含血量約占三分之一左右。

Emperors and concubines of the Qing Dynasty chose Changhua chicken blood stone as the jade seals. In 49 Qianlong, when Emperor Qianlong visited Tianmu in the south, Zenyuan Monastery presided over the donation of chicken blood stone to one side. Qianlong took the "Qianlong treasure" jade seals to Beijing. Nowadays, this jade seal is still hidden in the treasure house of the Palace Museum, "68 seals of emperors of different dynasties" and marked with the words "carved with Changhua chicken blood stone". The matrix of Changhua chicken blood stone is called "ground" and its color is mostly white, yellow and grey, while the red formed by cinnabar is called "blood", which has various hues of "blood". According to the different colours and textures of "ground", many varieties are divided, among which the most famous and precious are: Dahongpao: the amount of "blood" is more than 50%~70%.
