在漫長的地質年代里,因為火山爆發、泥石流等自然現象,一些植物被封存在巖層中,植物體中的有機物質分解殆盡,但留下了它們鮮活時的形態和結構,甚至一些細微的肌理都保存完好,這就是植物化石。在隨后的歲月中,這些植物遺體中的有機質分解殆盡,堅硬的部分如樹干、根、枝葉等與包圍在周圍的沉積物一起經過石化變成了石頭,但是它們原來的形態、結構(甚至一些細微的內部構造)依然保留著;同樣,那些植物生活時留下的痕跡也可以這樣保留下來。我們把這些石化了的植物遺體、遺跡稱為化石。從化石中可以看到古代植物的樣子,從而可以推斷出古代植物的情況和環境,可以推斷出埋藏化石的地層形成的年代和經歷的變化,可以看到生物從古到今的變化等等化石。樹葉化石是大自然中的奇跡,由于形成條件極其苛刻和困難,所以尤其珍貴,被稱為“化石皇后”和“化石王冠上的明珠”。該樹葉化石是若干張樹葉重重疊疊抱在一起,經過大自然無數年造化,如此多的樹葉、如此清晰的紋理、如此大的重量,極其罕見,具有極高的藝術、觀賞、研究、收藏價值。

The foliage fossil is a number of overlapping leaves folded together, after innumerable years of nature, so many leaves, such a clear texture, such a large weight, extremely rare, with high artistic, ornamental, research, collection value.
