Jin Yuanbao, whose foreign meaning is equivalent to gold coin, belongs to the ancient circulating currency. In the history of Chinese currency, gold and silver were officially called "Yuan Bao", which began in the Yuan Dynasty. However, as early as in the early Tang Dynasty when Kaiyuan Tongbao was founded, the people took its great and valuable meaning and read it as "Kaiyuan Tongbao". In the Yuan Dynasty, gold and silver coins were called "Yuan Bao", which means the treasure of the Yuan Dynasty. Gold was called "Jin Yuanbao" and silver ingots were called "Yin Yuanbao". They had both political implications and common terms for gold and silver coins.
Gold, as a precious metal, has a long-standing function as money. The early gold coins of China should be pushed forward by the seal gold of the State of Chu during the Warring States Period, i.e. the flat gold plate with inscriptions, with several to dozens of square inscriptions of "Yungzao" imprints, containing more than 90% or even 99% gold, and the other "Yungzao" imitating the former, only minted in Chen Di, is also the gold coin of the State of Chu. In addition to plate-shaped gold coins, there are various gold coins such as gold ingots, gold collars and so on in successive dynasties. Because of its physical nature and social value balance, gold has become an ideal substitute for money.
Yuanbao has been an indispensable part of people's material life for a long period of time. It is indispensable to reward, tax, trade and so on. It is a symbol of wealth. It has a deep cultural connotation. Through the shape, writing and specific use, we can not only understand the different shape changes in different historical periods, but also know its important role in the process of social and economic development.
