清朝初年設(shè)置江南省。它的轄地范圍為現(xiàn)今的、安徽、浙江、福建、江西、湖南等地。以后，江南省轄地縮小到江蘇、安徽兩省，至1723年(元年)江南省被撤銷(xiāo)，轄地復(fù)歸江蘇、安徽兩省。江南省鑄造銅幣歷史不長(zhǎng)，待江南省所鑄的銅幣在市面上流通之時(shí)，江南省早已不復(fù)存在了。故它是我國(guó)貨幣史上惟一有省之名份而無(wú)實(shí)際省份的一種銅幣。
