崇寧通寶是北宋徽宗趙佶崇寧年間(1102-1106年)始鑄，年號錢。北宋徽宗在位25年，先后鑄造了圣宋通寶、崇寧通寶（重寶）、大觀通寶、政和通寶（重寶）、重和通寶、宣和通寶（元寶）等6種錢幣，其中崇寧通寶和大觀通寶的錢文是徽宗親書的瘦金體，所以又稱其為御書錢。被世人公認(rèn)為中國鑄幣史上四個高峰期之一，它從幣材、鑄造工藝、錢文、版別到合金配比等方面，均達到了巔峰。而此時期最有代表性的又首推崇寧通寶，以其錢文俊美、鑄造精湛而征服世人。

此崇寧通寶為方孔圓錢，正面旋讀“崇寧通寶”四字，其錢文為宋徽宗趙佶御書瘦金體，是以此錢又被成為“御書錢”，運筆流暢，筆劃橫直豎立，起頓有力，深竣挺拔，鐵劃銀鉤，深具骨秀格清之氣韻，剛?cè)嵯酀芍^十分的瀟灑雋美，是徽宗瘦金書體存留世間的真實顯現(xiàn)，堪為典范。
