湖北省造光緒元寶庫平一錢四分四厘，錢幣正面珠圈內鈐有光緒元寶，珠圈上鈐有湖北省造，下鈐有幣值庫平一錢四分四厘，左右兩邊鈐有梅花印，背面珠圈內鈐有蟠龍圖，上下鈐有英文。此枚銀幣經過時間的洗練，品相完好，實屬不易。光緒十五年(1889),張之洞奉命調往湖北,任湖廣總督,此后不久,便將廣東的經驗運用于湖北,并在湖北武昌籌建了國內第二家采用機器制造銀元的官方鑄錢機構——湖北銀元局,該局也是張之洞來到湖北后建造的第一家鑄錢機構。湖北銀元局所造銀元,因含銀量高,制作精良,廣受歡迎而行銷全國。湖北銀元局不僅廣鑄銀元,而且也曾發行紙幣。但因該局紙幣存世稀少,極難尋覓而很少為人們所熟悉。
