"大泉五十"錢是新莽貨幣中的一種，"泉"是"錢"的借用.王莽相信讖緯學(xué)說,在其奪天下后,以劉字(繁體劉字)由卯.金.刀三字所組成,遂為避劉字， 鑄幣文字都要避諱。而改”錢”為"泉"。同時取意,"錢如泉水流轉(zhuǎn),永不停息".大泉五十即為"大錢當(dāng)五十"的意思。
