北宋徽宗崇寧年間，是我國古代盛行年號錢的時代，北宋年號錢制作時間長，幾乎就貫穿了王朝的整個始末，種類繁多，鑄工精良，錢文書體豐富。幣質有銅、鐵、銀三種，而崇寧重寶為隸書銅質。制作精好，另外錢文所用字體乃是宋徽宗的瘦金體，鐵劃銀鉤，深具骨秀格清之氣韻，書法超妙絕倫。

此幣為崇寧重寶，正面“崇寧重寶”四字隸書對讀，字體端莊工整，結構舒朗清骨秀格，制作精美，鑄錢驚絕，質地厚重堅硬，品相良好。外圓內方，古樸方正，錢背為光背無文，包漿自然古老，錢表平整深峻，帶有斑駁綠銹，古樸盎然，歷史痕跡感強。錢文隸書“寧下星”，嚴謹莊重，法度固定，是北宋錢幣的佼佼者，是北宋重要的錢幣之一。稀世珍寶具有極高的收藏價值和觀賞價值。

崇寧重寶是北宋徽宗崇寧年間鑄造的一種重寶，和崇寧通寶并鑄發行，因兩崇寧錢文一絕，因此收到人們的喜愛。崇寧重寶錢文隸書為宰相蔡京所書，端莊穩重，為歷代錢文隸書最美者。因山字一豎和宗字上面一點連接，被人說蔡京寫此崇字有意破宋，后北宋不久被金人所滅，似是冥冥中自有定數。
