八思巴文作為元朝的國書，作為一種通用于多種語言的統一的書面形式，給后人留下了許多歷史資料。現存資料中，拼寫維吾爾語、藏語和梵語的資料很少，拼寫蒙古語和漢語的資料較多，其中包括元朝官方文件的原件和碑刻，以及銅印、牌符、錢鈔、圖書、題記等。
