牡丹（學名：Paeonia suffruticosa Andr.）是芍藥科、芍藥屬植物，為多年生落葉灌木。莖高達2米；分枝短而粗。葉通常為二回三出復葉，偶爾近枝頂的葉為3小葉；頂生小葉寬卵形，表面綠色，無毛，背面淡綠色，有時具白粉，側生小葉狹卵形或長圓狀卵形，葉柄長5-11厘米，和葉軸均無毛?；▎紊敚?，長橢圓形；萼片5，綠色，寬卵形，花瓣5或為重瓣，玫瑰色、紅紫色、粉紅色至白色，通常變異很大，倒卵形，頂端呈不規則的波狀；花藥長圓形，長4毫米；花盤革質，杯狀，紫紅色；心皮5，稀更多，密生柔毛。蓇葖長圓形，密生黃褐色硬毛。花期5月；果期6月。
