清朝滅亡之后，1912年4月袁世凱出任大總統(tǒng)。我國(guó)錢(qián)銀系統(tǒng)自近代以來(lái)，逐步進(jìn)入到過(guò)渡時(shí)期，所謂的過(guò)渡時(shí)期，即是在從封建社會(huì)的銀兩到現(xiàn)代的紙幣之間，有一個(gè)銀元的過(guò)渡時(shí)期。以民國(guó)銀元為主，例如咱們?nèi)缃袼f(shuō)到的“袁大頭”，即是一件很典型的例子，袁世凱為了提高自己的統(tǒng)治地位，把他的頭像鑄于幣面，由于這種銀元上面方方正正的刻下了袁世凱的頭像，所以世人皆稱(chēng)之為“袁大頭”。
