此枚山鬼花錢保存較好，圖案清晰可見，字跡生俊有力，包漿老厚，銹跡自然，是中國古錢幣長流河中的一條重要支流，積淀了深厚的民俗文化內涵。這枚錢幣一面是八卦圖，另一面中間豎書二十七字咒語“雷霆雷霆、殺鬼降精、斬妖辟邪、永保神清。奉太上老君急急如律令敕”。山鬼紋飾花錢的背面，是楷體陽文八卦紋飾和乾—兌—離—震—巽—坎—艮—坤八個楷書陽文。
花錢又稱“厭勝錢”，“厭”字此處念yā，通“壓”，有傾覆、適合、抑制、堵塞、掩藏、壓制的意思。花錢源于漢代，工藝精湛，寓意深邃，涉獵范圍廣,鑄造精巧而著稱于世。舊時人們認為可以壓制邪魅。清代道士用來施法以降妖震鬼驅邪的載體，也可叫法器。經道士開光后，百姓請回掛于家中鎮宅或隨身攜帶保平安。
