在中國近代史的發(fā)展歷程中，出現(xiàn)了許多歷史性的英雄人物。其中，于19世紀(jì)早期推翻滿清封建君主專制統(tǒng)治、結(jié)束長達(dá)兩千多年封建帝制的孫中山先生，成為近代社會(huì)發(fā)展過程中一位具有舉足輕重地位的歷史人物。孫中山先生不僅在政治上為中國做出了極大的貢獻(xiàn)，而且在經(jīng)濟(jì)上也為中國的發(fā)展描繪了宏偉的藍(lán)圖，是近代歷史上民主革命思想的先行者。
1912年是中華民國成立的開始，舉國上下民主人士齊心和合作。袁世凱表面支持共和，實(shí)則覬覦民主勝利果實(shí)。1912年元月，各方民主力量經(jīng)過幾十年的斗爭(zhēng)后，終于戰(zhàn)勝了封建清政府，在列強(qiáng)壓迫，內(nèi)戰(zhàn)不斷的環(huán)境下，和平易幟，交接政權(quán)。
為了紀(jì)念這件翻天覆地的大事，國民政府決定鑄銀元紀(jì)念。1912年的民元國會(huì)。選舉孫中山為第一領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人。鑄造的首批銀元以孫中山頭像為背景圖案。首鑄幣背面六角星，鏤空麥穗圍繞。這批銀元為首鑄的一批，發(fā)行有限，僅有40000枚，當(dāng)年即被換購收藏一空。

In order to commemorate this earth-shaking event, the National Government decided to cast silver yuan to commemorate it. Congress of the Republic of China in 1912. Sun Yat-sen was elected as the first leader. The first silver coins were cast with Sun Yat-sen's head as the background pattern. Hexagonal stars on the back of the first coin, hollowed out around the ears of wheat. The first batch of silver coins, with a limited distribution of only 40,000, was purchased and collected in the same year.
此幣正面中央為孫中山側(cè)面像，上方書“中華民國”四字，下鑄有“中華民國開國紀(jì)念幣”隸書字樣，左上、右上位置各有一個(gè)五花星，周邊有珠點(diǎn)、齒狀裝飾。背面中央為隸書“壹圓”二字，左右各輔以嘉禾圖案，上側(cè)有“MEMENTO”(紀(jì)念幣)字樣，下側(cè)為“BIRTH OFREPUBLIC OF CHINA”(中華民國誕生)，左右上方分列六角星圖案。此幣記錄了辛亥革命驚天動(dòng)地的偉大歷史，由于歷經(jīng)百年風(fēng)雨，加上當(dāng)時(shí)鑄造數(shù)量極為有限，存世量極為稀少，尤其是品相好的更為稀缺，極具收藏價(jià)值。
