袁大頭是民國時期主要流通貨幣之一，“袁大頭”是對袁世凱像系列硬幣的口語俗稱，嚴謹點說叫“袁世凱像背嘉禾銀幣”。"袁大頭"在貨幣收藏界被稱為銀元之寶，是中國近千種近代銀幣中流傳最廣、影響最大的銀元品種，也是近代中國幣制變革中的一個重要角色。

而在袁大頭當中最珍貴、最稀罕的版本，當屬民國三年的袁世凱頭像“簽字版”(幣面右側方有英文款識)，是近代銀幣中不可多得的珍品。此版是為了紀念袁世凱銀元刻模的雕刻專家魯爾治•喬治，在袁像右側刻有此人的拉丁簽名“L.GIORGI”。

此枚中華民國三年袁大頭壹圓簽字版，正面是袁世凱側面像，上環寫著“中華民國三年”，在人物刻畫上，依然可以清晰看見袁世凱當時風華正茂的神態，側面肩膀上佩戴著民國時期的肩章，整體看生動形象。頭像右側有英文“L.GIORGI”字樣。錢幣的背面中間寫著“壹圓”二字，周圍輔以嘉禾圖案，包漿醇厚，保存完好，是銀元中難得一見之精品，有著極高的收藏價值。
