大多數玻璃隕石的形狀與熔融濺射物的形狀相似，常呈黑色或深綠色，半透明，一般認為是隕星事件造成的，大隕星沖撞使地表及隕星的碎裂物很快融熔、迅速冷卻結晶而成。大陸上發現的玻璃隕石的大小，從幾毫米至十幾厘米不等，反射光下發暗，但薄的邊緣透亮，并具有不同的顏色，從黃色到綠色，從橄欖褐色到暗褐色。由于玻璃隕石的形成比較復雜，存世極為罕見稀少，物以稀為貴，那他的價值肯定高于其他隕石。
