第一套人民幣是黨中央批準，1948年12月1日在河北石家莊市，在華北銀行的基礎上成立了中國人民銀行，此時已任華北政府主席的董必武同志發布命令開始發行統一的人民幣。并用柳體寫了票面上的“中國人民銀行”六字。這也是中國貨幣歷史上的一個重要轉折點。第一套人民幣是戰時貨幣，又是新中國成立初期經濟恢復時期貨幣。
