民國十四年（1925年）時任甘肅隴南鎮守使的孔繁錦在天水造幣廠鑄造了首枚機鑄銅元：“甘肅銅幣當制錢五十文、壹佰文”兩種銅元。此時“天水砂板”早已禁用，小面額輔幣斷檔，市面交易無法找零，故孔繁錦用范鑄法匆忙鑄造了“甘肅輔幣孔造五文及中華民國十文”兩種輔幣予以完善。民國十五年（1926年）孔繁錦逃往天津，隴南易主。它的鑄幣除甘肅銅幣當制錢五十文、壹佰文沿用兩年外，其余鑄幣一律廢止。至此，孔繁錦在天水鑄造的錢幣成為歷史。小面額輔幣因鑄期短、鑄量少，目前已成銅元中的珍品。

甘肅輔幣孔造五文銅元，1924年天水鎮守使兼陜甘援川總司令孔繁錦主持鑄行。紫銅質，凹邊機制銅元，幣文為標準的楷書，端莊秀美，表面光潔，鑄造水平極高。中國銅元采用凹邊技術的不多，光緒元寶戶部二十文及四川省民國十五年200文銅元曾一度采用過這種技術，凹邊均較淺平，不及孔造五文深峻規整。甘肅孔造五文另有一種翻砂版，表面粗糙，存世較多，遠不及機制五文珍貴。

此枚錢幣重4.4g，直徑22.02mm。品相完美，近未使用品“甘肅孔繁錦新設立的造幣廠，初期不僅做了‘孔造五文’的機制流通錢與翻砂用的凹槽邊母錢外，還做了‘中華民國十文’的凹槽邊機制母錢，從目前發現的實物來看，在這個時期，孔繁錦以造機制錢為幌子，實際上仍在大量生產較便宜的翻砂銅元，機制的母錢最終成了擺設，所以存世的機制孔造五文與十文皆很珍稀。
