董其昌(1555-1636),華亭(今上海)人。字玄宰,號思白、香光居士。萬歷十六年(1588)進士,官至南京禮部尚書,謚文敏。董其昌擅畫山水,師法董源、巨然、黃公望、倪瓚,筆致清秀中和,恬靜疏曠;用墨明潔雋朗,溫敦淡蕩;青綠設色,古樸典雅。以佛家禪宗喻畫,倡“南北宗”論,為“華亭畫派”杰出代表,兼有“顏骨趙姿”之美。
Dong Qichang (1555-1636), from Huating (now Shanghai). The word Xuanzai is called Sibai and Xiangguang Gushi. In the sixteenth year of Wanli (1588), Jinshi, an official, went to Nanjing Ritual Department to write a book, Ji Wenmin. Dong Qichang is good at painting landscapes. He imitates Dong Yuan, Juran, Huang Gongwang and Ni Zan. His brushwork is elegant and neutral, quiet and sparse. His ink is clear and meaningful, and his style is simple and elegant. With Buddhist Zen figurative painting and advocating the theory of "North and South Sect", it is an outstanding representative of "Huating Painting School" and has the beauty of "Yan Gu Zhao Zi".
董其昌是中國書法史上頗有影響的書法家之一,其書法風格與書學理論對后世產生了一定的影響。在趙孟頫嫵媚圓熟的“松雪體”稱雄書壇數百年后,董其昌以其生秀淡雅的風格,獨辟蹊徑,自立一宗,亦領一時風騷,以致“片楮單牘,人爭寶之”。在中國美術史上地位十分重要,他針對中國傳統文人畫創作所提出的“南北宗”論對后世影響很大,成為之后近300余年文人畫創作的主要指導思想。
Dong Qichang is one of the influential calligraphers in the history of Chinese calligraphy. His style and theory of calligraphy have exerted a certain influence on later generations. 董其昌才溢文敏,通禪理、精鑒藏、工詩文、擅書畫及理論。他是海內文宗,執藝壇牛耳數十年,是晚明最杰出、影響最大的書畫家。董其昌的繪畫長于山水,注重師法傳統技法,追求平淡天真的格調,講究筆致墨韻,墨色層次分明,拙中帶秀,清雋雅逸。《畫史繪要》評價道:“董其昌山水樹石,煙云流潤,神氣俱足,而出于儒雅之筆,風流蘊藉,為本朝第一。”董的繪畫對明末清初的畫壇影響很大,并波及到近代畫壇。一直以來,董其昌的作品都是海內外大收藏家尋覓的目標。
