此書集為《毛澤東選集》共五冊，是1951年人民出版社出版的圖書，作者是毛澤東。《毛澤東選集》是毛澤東思想的重要載體，是毛澤東思想的集中展現，是對20世紀中國影響最大的書籍之一。建國后兩個版本的《毛澤東選集》，均由人民出版社出版。《毛澤東選集》在建國前即有大量出版。自1944年于邯鄲創建的晉察冀日報社出版首版《毛澤東選集》。建國后出版的《毛澤東選集》一至五卷，編入的是毛澤東同志在新民主主義革命時期的主要著作。第一版《毛澤東選集》一至五卷，分別于20世紀50年代初和60年代初出版。1991年7月1日，《毛澤東選集》一至五卷第二版正式出版發行。鄧小平同志為新版《毛澤東選集》題寫了書名。

這部選集，包括了毛澤東同志在中國革命各個時期中的重要著作。幾年前各地方曾經出過幾種不同版本的《毛澤東選集》，都是沒有經過著者審查的，體例頗為雜亂，文字亦有錯訛，有些重要的著作又沒有收進去。現在的這部選集，是按照中國共產黨成立后所經歷的各個歷史時期并且按照著作年月次序而編輯的。這部選集盡可能地搜集了一些為各地方過去印行的集子還沒有包括在內的重要著作。選集中的各篇著作，都經著者校閱過，其中有些地方著者曾作了一些文字上的修正，也有個別的文章曾作了一些內容上的補充和修改。
